Facebook-owned Whatsapp just announced a major update to its security settings which prevents an unknown user from activating your phone number for WhatsApp without a six-digit passcode. Here are the steps for How to Enable Two-Step Verification on WhatsApp.
They are testing out this feature from November 2016 in Beta version and now they are officially rolling out the New Version for IOS and Android users. You can enable or disable the two-step verification mode that depends on how you want your account to be secured. The company assures that once two-step verification enabled, any attempt to verify phone number on WhatsApp will require a six-digit passcode that is created by the user.
How to Enable Two-Step Verification on WhatsApp
- Update the App to newer version
- Open Whatsapp
- Go to Settings
- Go to Account
- Go to Two-Step Verification
- Tap on Enable to Add the security
- Enter your Six digit passcode two times
- Next, Add optional Email Address to recover your passcode
It says Email Address is optional but we recommend you to give your email address while enabling the two-step verification because when you forgot your passcode Whatsapp will send a link to deactivate your two-step verification process.
(WhatsApp says it will prompt you to enter your code “periodically” in order to help you remember it.)
