The evolution of storage devices has stopped ever since the birth of microSD cards. A few days back there was no competitor for the microSD cards, but those days are over now. The Korean tech giant Samsung has launched a competitor for the microSD cards called as Samsung Universal Flash Storage (UFS) cards. Samsung UFS cards could replace the microSD cards soon in future.
The Samsung UFS cards have suppressed the microSD card in all terms. The Samsung UFS cards offer reads speed five times more than the microSD cards and it can write the data nearly twice as fast as the microSD.
The Samsung UFS cards will be ideally suited for high-resolution devices like DSLRs, Action cams, 3D VR Cameras, Drones and for 3D gaming as well as 4K Videos. In terms of performance, The UFS cards can read at 530 MB/S which is five times more than the speed of current microSD cards (95 MB/S).
The company says that the UFS cards can read a 5GB movie or file in less than 10 seconds, which is much quicker than the regular microSD card. The current microSD cards will read the same movie or file in about 50 seconds.
As far as the writing is concerned, the Samsung UFS cards will give you 170 MB/S which is almost double than the current top class microSD cards. The current microSD cards offer writing speed of 90 MB/S. Typical microSD cards used in a smartphone gives you 20 MB/S writing speed, it means the Samsung UFS cards are eight to nine times faster than the current microSD cards.
Since it has faster reading and writing speed, Samsung believes that it will help a lot of photographers and Videographers. It will allow them to keep to copy over big multimedia files.
UFS technology has support for “simultaneous reading and writing”, which means it can use more than one path unlike microSD cards, which helps it multiply the throughput. This is the main reason for the UFS cards to achieve such huge numbers.
The Samsung UFS cards are available in Storage capacities of 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. For now, there’s no word on pricing or availability of the new Samsung UFS cards.
