How to Setup a Router – Simple and Easy

In today’s digital world, use of social networking is rising rapidly. Using PC connected with Internet cable can’t always keep you connected with your friends on social network. What you needs then is a WiFi connection to bring the social network to your Handsets or Laptops.For that, you have to install a wifi router at your place. so, let’s learn How to setup a router.

If you have already purchased a Router follow below instructions – How to setup a  router. If not, To purchase a Router from www.amazon.in

1.Connect Router with Modem

Place your Modem near your router and connect them with Ethernet cable (LAN Cable) to enable sharing your internet broadband connection with your other WiFi supporting devices. Connect the Internet Cable to the WAN/Internet port on your Router (I have shown it in Picture Below). Many routers come packaged with a short Ethernet Cable that you can use to connect them.

2.Configuration of Router

You can configure Router by Two Methods :-

1. Using Setup Software
2. Manual Configuration

Using Setup Software

Insert setup CD that comes with your router on your PC or download software of the router from the vendors website. Follow the instructions and complete your setup. If something goes wrong with this procedure then consider manual configuration.

Manual Configuration

  • Input IP address in Browser :

Find IP address of the router on Box of the router or you can Google search it with the name of Model of the router. After Input that IP address as URL in internet browser, you will be directed to Router configuration page. Most common IP addresses are :- 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.2.1.

  • Enter Username & Password :

On the first page of router configuration, you will be asked to enter Username and Password. You can find Username and Password on Box of Router or in documentation.
Common username is “admin” and Passwords are “admin” or “password”. If you can’t find correct Username and Password for your Router then do Google search for it.

  • Do Wireless settings :

After entering username and password you will get access to do wireless settings in the main menu of router configuration. Do settings there as instructed below.

Select SSID / name  – Give a name to your wireless network.
> Select security – choose Security type for your network. Choose WPA2-PSK security which gives most protection to your network.
> Set a Password – Set a difficult password in the password section.
> Save settings – After giving name, choosing security and setting up a password to protect your network don’t forget to save your settings.
